So yeah I went and made a 2D TY game with some of the old team :)

I did a huge chunk of the in game art so less concept stuff and more actual 2D in game art from me. I'll post how we made it a after the game comes out.

Just random curiosity: were the original GBA games' sprites made with digitized pre-rendered 3D graphics or just basic from-scratch spiting?

They were rendered from the 3D models then cleaned up by hand.

When boomerang blast I kinda expected it but this announcement took me by surprise. It's a shame this game isn't on a console like the DS. The amount of children I see playing on them is amazing and TY is extremely kid friendly. It's action packed enough that kids will like and be entertained by it and the violence is minimal (nonexistent to me but I'm not an overly concerned parent) so parents would approve of it.

I also believe that the graphics will shine on the PS3 and PS Vita but that may be the Sony fan girl in me. I will have to look into getting windows 8 when I get my laptop now (I was going to downgrade to 7 until I heard about this new game).

Is it the engine or the lack of funds that prevented this game going outside the realms of PC? Just out of curiosity.

Actually it's the fact that Microsoft ponied up the money to develop it. :) There's a good chance it will head to other platforms later funds permitting.

I don't get why so many people are down on Windows 8. I've been using it for months now on my new PC and love it - Then again I'm not trying to run really old out of date software on it either. I have old PCs for that:)

It's probably because its so radically different to all of the other windows. It's what turned it off for me. I've just figured out how to use everything in windows 7, why should I relearn a new operating system? But I will admit that windows 8 suits a tablet more.

Will the game be a download only or is it available in retail? Is there a plot or is it go from A to B for 30 levels?

Well the new UI that everyone is whines about is really just a glorified new start menu, the WIndows 8 desktop is pretty much exactly the same as Win 7. It's also ridiculously easy to get a Win 7 style start menu back and you'd never have to deal with the new stuff. It's not actually that radically different :) People just fear change - just look at what happens when Facebook changes it's layout a little :)

It's download only form the Windows 8 store - if it gets to other platforms it's pretty likely it will still be digital only.

There's a plot - definitely. It's structured more like TY 1 but you have to play the levels in order. (there's plenty of off the main path stuff just like TY 1, stuff like Gooboo berries to collect and Koala kids to rescue). New rangs and a opal powered charge attack for the rangs, which you can see in the trailer. Sly plays a big part in the story. Oh and playable character skins too - Sly, Shazza, Brolga etc. including some new Thylacines.

I've probably said too much. :D

Lol to me you have said enough :) at least windows 8 isn't as scary as everyone is making it out to be.

It's great that Sly is finally getting some spotlight. I will deffently be looking forward to playing as Brolga. She looks like a really cool character. Do you know when the game will be out?

Reminds me a lot on the GBA versions. But it looks pretty awesome! But would it really be only aviable for windows 8?
Also I really like this kind of 2D games. (Need to think of Rayman Origins) can't wait to see more of this!

Looks like it'll be pretty good... Is this going to be considered "Ty 4"? Or is it just something to hold us all off until it gets made? And on that note, will there be a new 3D Ty game? Ty just doesn't seem right when his games are outside of 3D.
Anyways, what consoles/systems will this new 2D game be on?

It's pretty much TY 4. The Story continues on from 3. We dropped the numbers so that we don't scare of new players. TY 2 and TY 3 both had 2D versions on the GBA so it's not something that new. Though this version is much prettier and HD. Also so much art by me. :D

Ah, I see. Wait, there were 2D Ty games on the GBA? Wow, I never knew that. I'll have to try and get a hold of one to try it out. Will there ever be any more 3D Ty games?
